Potentiality of Play

PhD. Project

(Edinburgh Napier University)

My PhD research project ‘The Potentiality of Play’, is driven by complementary methods of Design Ethnography and Research through Design.

13 service design workshops were undertaken at the Museum of Childhood and the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, where children designed and constructed some amazing Automata toys, by employing 21st-century literacies of exploration, tinkering, and prototyping. The automata were used as a design idiom to comprehend an understanding of geometry and various shapes.
